Excess Sugar in the Diet Increases the Risk of Stroke and Cardiovascular Disease

According to E-saglam.az, cardiologist Dmitry Orlov has warned about the health risks associated with excessive sugar consumption.

According to the physician, consuming too much sugar over a long period gradually weakens the heart and blood vessels. This process contributes to high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, and diabetes, ultimately increasing the risk of stroke or heart attack.

Orlov noted that the danger is not limited to obvious sweets such as cakes and candy. Hidden sources of sugar—including soft drinks, packaged fruit juices, sweetened yogurt, sauces, and processed foods—often contain large amounts of added sugar that can easily go unnoticed in the daily diet.

The cardiologist does not recommend eliminating sugar from the diet entirely but advises keeping its consumption to a minimum. Cutting out sugary drinks, reducing dessert intake, and replacing some sweets with fruit and nuts are among the first steps people can take to lower their risk.
