75-Year-Old Woman Beaten to Death with a Hammer and Crowbar, Then Dumped in a Well – Shocking Details of the Brutal Murder
The appeal hearing of Aypara Asgarova (born 1986) and Firuze Seyidova (born 1987) is continuing at the Nakhchivan Supreme Court.
According to local media reports, the two women appealed the verdict handed down by the Nakhchivan Court for Grave Crimes.
The trial court found them guilty of premeditated murder committed with exceptional cruelty by a group of persons for financial gain. Asgarova was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months in prison, while Seyidova received a 15-year prison sentence. Both women are mothers of three children.
According to the prosecution, the crime took place on April 19 last year in Oglangala village of the Sharur district. The victim, 75-year-old Zeynab Ismayilova, lived alone and was known in the village as a financially well-off woman who often lent money and kept cash at home.
Investigators say that Asgarova, who was struggling financially, devised a plan to steal the victim's money and enlisted Seyidova to help carry it out.
On the day of the murder, Ismayilova visited Asgarova's home to use a washing machine. Prosecutors allege that while she was bending down to collect her clothes, she was struck repeatedly on the head from behind with a hammer and an iron crowbar. After suffering severe injuries, she was allegedly strangled to death.
To conceal the crime, the women reportedly wrapped the body in a blanket and threw it into a water well in the yard. They are also accused of stealing the victim's cash and gold jewelry before attempting to cover up the murder by spreading misleading information.
The investigation gained momentum after Asgarova suddenly paid off her outstanding debts, raising suspicions. During the search operation, a police dog led investigators to the property. Emergency responders later recovered the victim's body from the well.
A forensic examination found multiple fragmented skull fractures, each of which was considered life-threatening.
During the investigation, Asgarova confessed to the crime, saying that her goal was to obtain the money and travel to Türkiye. The appeal proceedings are currently ongoing at the Nakhchivan Supreme Court.
